PredaS (Orius laevigatus)

Biological control of pests plays a very important role in reducing the indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides and the production of healthy and environmentally friendly products by relying on commercialized species of natural enemies such as parasitoids, predators, and pathogens. Orius laevigatus is one of the most common predators of small arthropods, such as thrips, spider mites, aphids, whiteflies, and Lepidopteran eggs and larvae. Nymphs and adults of O. laevigatus feed strongly on different life stages of these pests and can effectively reduce pest populations and increase crop yield.

Each bottle of PredaS contains more than 1000 nymphs and adults of O. laevigatus mixed with sawdust and vermiculite. Nymphs are cream to light brown and adults are black. Each nymph kills more than 50 thrips larvae during its 12-days life cycle and each adult can hunt up to 20 thrips larvae, daily.

Application of this product is recommended to control various species of thrips on strawberries, peppers, cucumbers, vegetables, onions, nurseries, and ornamental plants such as roses and cloves. Some crops such as roses, peppers, and strawberries which have pollen sources during the flowering period provide ideal conditions for releasing O. laevigatus. In the absence of target pests, the predator can survive and establish without and damage to the host plant in the greenhouse by feeding on pollen. When plants have no pollen sources, it is recommended that some pollen be used as an alternative food along with the predator formulation.

Before use, shake the bottle gently and horizontally for a few seconds to mix the contents evenly. Then, sprinkle the content of the bottle according to the table below, locally on the surface of leaves in the greenhouse. Preharvest interval of chemical pesticides should be considered at the time of application.
